Artist's Description
Garden Plein air painting of cut flowers in a terra cotta bucket. An homage to the late Russian Impressionist Sergei Bongart who taught many artists his methods of expressive and vividly colored paintings. This is painted en Plein Aire using a thinner mix of acrylic paint to create the wet-on-wet appearance and on canvas color mixing. Bongart passed away but one of his colleagues in Idaho, the artist Berberian conducts summer workshops on painting still life pantings outdoors. I don't attend workshops myself but it is often a great way for students to learn from the masters right on the job.
Just grab an old garden watering can like this and drop in some fresh cut flowers in the bright sunlight and quickly block out your impressions of the setup. They are fun to paint and you can have many happy accidents.
