Seascape of the Irish coastline
This is a painting that I started with a black gesso ground. I wanted great contrast in the dark rocks. The painting is completely painted from dark to light.

This is another painting that is created using a black gesso as a ground. As a single session painting you can create the illusion of high detail by simply painting the highlights. The effect doesn't work on every painting but this scene works for the technique.
