The rose gardens at USC have so many beautiful varieties of long stemmed roses its truly an amazing sight. This rose was at the end of the day as the sun was setting and was hitting the highest roses with the last rays of light. This is transparent watercolor on paper.

This is an exercise in working with the watercolor medium. Getting convincing red tones with transparent watercolor is always a challenge. I find it so much easier to paint roses with oil and acrylic because you can smoothly blend colors. Watercolors will leave edges and the colors will dull out if you use to much.
